GinGin & Roo is an award-winning blog that helps mums with tips for parenting daughters.
Hello!
Hi, I’m Jennie. It’s great that you’re here. Let me tell you a little about me and the award-winning GinGin & Roo blog.
I’m lucky enough to live in Cornwall with my two daughters – GinGin and Roo – and their daddy, Jon. We love playing outdoors. Whether that’s a day at the beach or a stroll in the woods, we love to be outside. We love reading. We love playing board games. We love exploring nature. And I quite like Gin.
We’re slowly making home improvements to our 1970s house. Make that VERY slow progress!
Officially, I’m a doctor. Not a medical doctor. I can’t diagnose your illnesses – I mean I can have a good guess – but I’m not that sort of doctor.
I have a PhD in History and, once upon a time, I used it properly. Yep, I used to be a university lecturer. I held posts at various universities in the UK. I had stuff published. And I was well-known in my field of expertise.
A couple of years after having our first baby – GinGin – I decided I wanted to spend more time as a mummy and made the difficult decision to leave the academic world behind. I took a job as an A-Level lecturer at our local college. It was definitely challenging, but gave me a little more family time.
Then our second baby – Roo – arrived! I felt I’d missed too much of GinGin’s childhood and I didn’t want to do that again with Roo. So after taking a year of maternity leave I returned to my job at the college, but only two days a week.
Several years on and I’m still working in education, but have a more senior role and I work full time.
GinGin & Roo Blog
To be completely honest I started the GinGin & Roo blog by accident. It began over on Instagram, where I wanted to document GinGin and Roo’s childhood. I often went over the character limit in my descriptions and realised that I needed more space to write.
So this blog was born. I no longer write about GinGin & Roo. Their exploits. Or their adventures. The blog has grown and transformed into a space to help other mummies navigate the wonderful, scary, stressful world of early motherhood. You’ll find that I only really write about raising daughters, because I have literally no experience of parenting little boys, so I stick to what I know about.
I help mums with tips for raising confident daughters, from baby to the teenage years.
