A Must-Go Place in Cornwall (Part II)

Last month I shared with you a must-go place if you’re ever in Cornwall. It’s a plant-lover’s paradise. You can read about and its fabulous cabin of curiosities here.

I promised to reveal the plant that made me so ridiculously happy.

Well, take a look at the cover image for this blog post.

Ta-dah!!!! This little bundle of spiky-succulent-gorgeousness is the plant!

It’s an Aloe Polyphylla. And apparently it’s quite rare.

Awesome isn’t it!

Okay, so it might not look much now. But this is what it will look like in a few years:

Isn’t it just the most glorious bit of green loveliness that you’ve ever seen? I’m just so in love with the spiral pattern. And I have to admit that I’m a real sucker for sculptural plants.

GinGin is also in love with this plant. She’s had the idea that we should photograph it once a month to document how it grows.

I think that’s a fabulous idea! And I’m super-happy that she’s taken such a keen interest in our ever-growing collection of plants.

We want her to feel connected to the natural world. To know that it’s fragile, carefully balanced and in desperate need of our love, care and protection.

Caring for our plants at home, watching them grow and learning about each one’s particular likes and dislikes are all key to making sure she is aware of the relative fragility of ecology.

It will help feed into her developing knowledge and understanding of the world around her. And of our responsibility to protect and preserve it for future generations.

But, anyway, I’m wandering off the point here. And I’ll be posting about our attempts at propagation and plant care soon 😉

If you’re unsure of where you would plant your succulents there are some ready-made plant collections. These would make the perfect gift. ( I hope you’re reading this Jon!)

I especially liked the ones in the handmade papercrete glinary pots made by Gary Rogers.

There is an awesome array of plants to choose from. And there are plants at different growing stages, so you can buy big for immediate impact or go small to save a few pennies and enjoy taking time to nurture your new plant babies.

The guys at Tremenheere Nursery didn’t choose the name Surreal Succulents for nothing. This place is epic if, like me, you love these awesome little plants!

So next time you’re in Cornwall, I would definitely recommend a trip over to Tremenheere Nursery.
