Best Dinosaur Books For Toddlers (Girls Love Dinos Too)

Best Dinosaur Books For Toddlers (Girls Love Dinos Too)

Everyone knows at least one kid that loves dinosaurs! Both my girls absolutely love dinosaurs and have since they were toddlers. So I’ve compiled this short list of the best dinosaur books for toddlers and preschoolers.

Reading is so important for your child’s development. It’s a great way to bond with your kids too. And I’ve yet to find a child who doesn’t love dinosaurs – they’re a favourite of boys and girls. So I’ve put together this handy list of the best dinosaur books for toddlers (and preschoolers).

GinGin and Roo are big dinosaur fans. They will play for hours with their toy dinosaurs, which is great for their creativity and imaginative development.

We bought GinGin dinosaur toys when she was just a toddler, and they’re now firm favourites of Roo too.

So if you’re thinking it’s only boys who like dinosaurs, I have two little girls who would disagree. And they both love to read dinosaur books, or listen to me read them aloud.

100 First Dinosaur Words Board Book

I’m a big fan of DK Children’s 100 First series of books for toddlers. And this wonderfully colourful book will certainly entertain your child from when they’re just a few months old to when they’re old enough for school.

It’s cleverly designed with look-and-point pictures to give you lots to talk about. The word labels and pronunciation guides also encourage language development, word association, reading readiness and stimulate talking.

This is a great all round dinosaur book for toddlers and preschoolers.

Peep Inside Dinosaurs

This was one of the first dinosaur books we bought for Roo when she was around 12 months old. And it’s still one of her fave go-to books now she’s three, and most of the flaps have survived!

It’s a really great dinosaur book to read aloud with a toddler, who can interact with the flaps as you read the words to them.

This is a lovely interactive book from Usborne for toddlers and preschoolers.

Dinosaurs (First Explorers)

Here’s another fantastic book about dinosaurs for toddlers. This brightly coloured picture book is stuffed with fun facts that you can talk about with your child.

There are can you see activities designed to encourage toddlers to develop word association. And the push, pull, slide scenes will help your child develop his or her fine motor skills.

Don’t miss other toddler books from the First Explorers series of books that are sure-fire favourites for toddlers and preschoolers.

Ten Little Dinosaurs Board Book

Counting books are brilliant for toddlers. And this dinosaur book is no exception. Follow along as ten baby dinosaurs get into all sorts of mischief when they sneak away from mummy dino.

Spoiler alert – all the little dinosaurs find their way safely back to mum, so no need to worry!

This is a funny spin on a classic counting rhyme, which your toddler will love you to read aloud.

The Dinosaur Who Lost His Roar

This picture book is a little different to the other dinosaur books for kids, which I’ve featured in this list. Rather than being about dinosaurs, this is a story where the main character – Sid the dinosaur – loses his voice from scaring his friends too much.

It’s a lovely story about friendship that will keep toddlers, preschoolers and even bigger kids entertained as you read it together.

Spot the Dinosaur on the Island

Possibly more for preschoolers and young children, this dinosaur book is packed with fun things to do. Can you spot the baby T Rex on every page? And have fun with your child counting how many purple dinosaurs there are.

One of the things I like best about this book – and others in the Spot The series – is that there are other fun dinosaur themed activities for kids to enjoy doing.

Have fun making a dino-land or doing the dinosaur stomp together. This is so much more than just a toddler book about dinosaurs.

Little Kids First Big Book of Dinosaurs

From National Geographic so you know it’s pure quality, this dinosaur book is actually more of an encyclopaedia for children. It’s perhaps one of the best dinosaur books for kids. And it’s one that will grow with your child.

Toddlers will enjoy looking at the wonderful pictures and listening as you read aloud the facts about each of the dinosaurs. Preschoolers and young children will also love reading this book, and learning how to pronounce the names of the dinosaurs.

If your child is a fan of Andy’s Dinosaur Adventures, they will love this dinosaur book.

Best Dinosaur Books For Toddlers

So these are my choice of the best dinosaur books for toddlers. Each book encourages toddlers and preschoolers to develop different skills. And all of these dinosaur books are incredibly entertaining for young children.

If you only have time to do one activity with your toddler each day, make it reading. Reading is so important to a child’s development in so many ways.

As a toddler our daughter loved „Dinosaur Dance“, „That‘s not my dinosaur“ and the dinosaur counting book from the Natural History Museum. She will be 5 next week and still loves dinosaurs. I think we have about 20 other dinosaur books.
